Ogden, Utah is a beautiful town. With its marvelous mountain views and its bustling historic downtown, it is the perfect place to shop, play, live, and own a business. For all these reasons and more, this is why our business calls Ogden our hometown.
Like many cities across the country, Ogden is also fraught with poverty and homelessness. Recently, these issues were brought forward and discussed by Wayne Niederhauser, Utah’s new Homeless Coordinator. In the interview, Niederhauser said, “I was up in Ogden the other day, and I didn’t see any encampments there.” Subtly hinting that Ogden does not have a homeless problem.
Niederhauser’s comments intrigued a couple of journalists at the Salt Lake Tribune, who set out to Ogden to learn more about the “hidden homeless” in Ogden. While in Ogden, these two journalists interviewed businesses around the homeless shelter to ask them about their experience with the homeless population. Our business is about a block away from the shelter in Ogden, so we were included in these interviews. You can find their article here. Their story touches on a few topics about providing security cameras in Ogden, but we felt this blog would paint a broader picture of everything we do to make Ogden a safer, better community.
Promoting Safety & Security in Ogden
Not only is our office up the street from the shelter in Ogden but we also installed the security cameras in the Ogden shelter. For the last few years, we have been working closely with the Lantern House Shelter trying to keep their residents and their staff safe. Whether it’s using our mobile security camera units to watch the area just outside or servicing the security cameras inside their building, we are always trying to make their facility as safe as possible.
During the start of the pandemic, our team developed a temperature screening kiosk aimed at helping businesses screen their employees faster and accurately. During development, the shelter reached and told us that they hired a medical staff to screen their residents each night when they came to stay. But unfortunately, the grant the shelter was using for this type of screening would run out soon and they needed a cost-effective and safe replacement solution. We were able to help. Our team was able to test our kiosk with their residents while simultaneously comparing it to the medical staff results. Not only did we show that our kiosk was accurate, but it gave the residents (who can be wary of new technology) a chance to get to know us and our product. It was a great success. And as of writing this, the shelter still uses our kiosk to safely check in their residents each night.
Security Cameras Provide Opportunity in Ogden
Being located close to the Lantern House means we see a lot of homeless people going to and from the shelter. Because of this, we got to know a few residents over the years. Since moving our office to this location, we’ve given multiple Lantern House residents jobs on our team. One of them even worked with us for almost two years.
We got to know Wayne by working on-site at the Lantern House in Ogden. He approached one of our techs and asked for a job on the spot. After some interviews, we were happy to add him to our team. Our partnership was mutually beneficial. We sent Wayne to work out of state for almost every job. While out of state, we provide all of our employees a great place to stay and generous per diem. This helped Wayne get back on his feet and after a few months, he had a place to call his own back in Ogden.
We are proud of the work we do and we are glad to help out some of Ogden’s most vulnerable people while we do it. It doesn’t always work out as well as it did with Wayne but we will continue to provide opportunities.
Security Cameras in Ogden, for Ogden
Our security cameras are everywhere in Ogden. On top of working with the shelter in Ogden, we work closely with the Ogden city government as well: Installing access control in Ogden city office buildings or putting security cameras in Ogden city parks.
One of the most fascinating projects we have worked on with Ogden city is the Real-Time Crime Center. We continually upgrade and add security cameras throughout the city. These cameras can then be used by Ogden city’s police force in real-time to respond to and even deter crime all over the city. The Real-Time Crime Center uses private security cameras, with permission from businesses on 25th street. But a large percentage of the views come from the security cameras our team has installed in downtown Ogden, at the municipal building, or the baseball stadium. Our security cameras are in almost every section of the city. We love our hometown, and we will continue to increase security and improve safety in our city for every one of Ogden’s citizens and visitors for years to come.
Security Cameras in Utah
As you can see, we love our hometown. But our service area and love for where we live, doesn’t end in Ogden. In fact, we install security cameras in Utah as well. The whole state! And we don’t stop there. We are a national company providing service in nearly all 50 states. Access control, security cameras, surveillance analytics, you name it, we do it. Complete integration anywhere in the United States. We always have teams on the road and are constantly looking for good places to eat. So let us know in the comments where you are from and what restaurant you recommend our team trying in your city. We’ll be sure to stop by the next time we’re installing security cameras and making your business, school, or community just as safe as ours.
